A Friendly & Efficient Lumion Cloud Rendering [2024]

Discover a friendly and efficient Lumion cloud rendering for you in 2024.

To architects and designers, Lumion is not an unfamiliar name. This software helps to breathe life into the model and create spectacular architectural renders. Not just the rendering process, Lumion also has become a part of the design pipeline of many architecture studios. Whether you are using it for the final rendering or creating a new project from scratch, it is important to make sure you have the right PC hardware for the job.

If your computer is average, or barely meets Lumion’s minimum requirements, using a cloud service or a render farm will speed up the process and significantly cut the render time. Among very few solutions out there, what is an efficient and easy-to-use Lumion cloud rendering solution? Let’s find out in this post.

Lumion System Requirements

Lumion Official has set out 3 levels of system requirements, that is minimum, recommended, and high-end. Moreover, there are 9 elements we should take into consideration.

If you are using Lumion 12, you can check the detailed hardware requirements here.

If you are using Lumion 2023, let’s take a quick look and compare the most important elements below.

Recommended High-end
CPU (processor) Intel/AMD processor with 2600 or higher CPUMark for a single thread Intel/AMD processor with 3000 or higher CPUMark for a single thread
GPU (Graphics card) GPU with 14000 or higher G3DMark GPU with 22000 or higher G3DMark
VRAM (Graphics card memory) 10 GB+ 16 GB+
RAM (System memory) 32 GB+ 64 GB+

Best CPU for Lumion

While Lumion heavily relies on the performance of your GPU, the CPU is mostly responsible for non-rendering calculations such as the UI and scene preview. In addition, for Lumion, high single-core performance is more helpful than core counts. How do we know a CPU with good single-core performance? Is it the GHz? Well, yes, and no. Single-core performance of a CPU is affected by various factors. You can refer to the benchmark by CPUMark (Passmark) or CGDirector.

In short, we do not necessarily need a high-end CPU, a CPU with good single-core performance will do. But of course, the CPU should be compatible with the performance of the GPU to avoid bottlenecks. If money is not a problem, let’s get the most powerful one we can.

Best GPU for Lumion

With Lumion, the GPU accelerates the render speed while rendering and ensures a smooth frame rate when you are working on the project. Because of this, your choice of GPU will determine your Lumion experience and rendering performance.

How much VRAM does Lumion need?

Straight performance is not the only thing to consider when choosing a GPU, it is also important that your GPU has enough VRAM or graphics card memory for your projects. Because VRAM is where your GPU will load, process, and render all the details, textures, and models of your project. So, the more VRAM available, the more complex your project can be.

Lumion 2023 Requirements Minimum Recommended High-end
VRAM 6 GB+

(Rendering in 4K resolution

or using RayTracing needs

at least 8 GB VRAM)

10 GB+ 16 GB+

What GPU is best for Lumion?

Lumion benefits greatly from using a GPU. Right now, RTX 4090, the latest product from the NVIDIA Geforce series, is the best graphics card you can get for Lumion. However, RTX 3090 (24 GB VRAM) gives an excellent performance at a more affordable price.

Do multiple GPUs improve performance in Lumion?

According to Lumion, multiple GPUs (in NVIDIA SLI, NVIDIA NVLink, or AMD Crossfire configuration) will not increase the performance or render speed in Lumion. Lumion will only use the GPU that is linked to the monitor that the Lumion window starts on.

Since Lumion does not work with multiple cards, we should get a high-end GPU that is as powerful as possible.

A Friendly & Efficient Lumion Cloud Rendering in 2024

Chip Render Farm is a friendly and efficient CPU & GPU cloud rendering solution for all 3D artists. Whether you are a student, a freelancer, or a creative studio, you can leverage our cutting-edge technology and hardware to make your deadline at a low cost.

Chip Render is an IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) render farm. We support all 3D applications and plugins, which are ideal for real-time rendering software such as Lumion, Unreal Engine, Twinmotion, and more. The best part? Our IaaS model gives you complete control over the servers and your workflow rather than SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions.

Easy of use, fast rendering, affordable prices, dedicated support, and especially full control – we give artists all they need to meet their on-demand rendering. We have you covered!

Chip Render Hardware

There are several hardware options available at Chip Render for rendering. Since Lumion only takes advantage of 1 graphics card, the Chip 1 package is the most suitable. This is the Chip 1 package’s specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3955WX @ 3.90GHz (16 cores)
  • GPU: 1 x RTX 3090, 24 GB VRAM
  • RAM: 256 GB
  • Storage (NVMe SSD): 1 TB

Chip Render’s hardware not only exceeds the recommended system requirements from Lumion but also meets the high-end ones. Our GPU packages can handle the most complex designs and projects with loads of high-end models and features.

Full control

Under the IaaS model, Chip Render gives you access and control to our physical machines. You rent our powerful workstations, set them up once, and use them just like your own computer.

You can:

  • Install any Lumion versions you want (10, 11, 12, 2023, etc).
  • Use Lumion with any model software, such as Revit, Sketchup, 3ds Max, Rhino, etc.
  • Both create a project or do the final render on Chip Render servers.

Flexibility

Because you have full control over Chip Render Cloud Workstation, you can use them in a flexible way. For instance, add more models or effects to the scene, change materials, stop the render halfway, and many more. On Chip Render machines, you can easily, and quickly edit the project file according to the client’s request, just like using your local computer.
